Legislation enabling New Jersey’s largest health insurer to take advantage of innovations and medical advances for its members while still retaining its charitable mission along with stabilizing premiums was signed into law Wednesday.

Legislation enabling New Jersey’s largest health insurer to take advantage of innovations and medical advances for its members while still retaining its charitable mission along with stabilizing premiums was passed by the full Senate and Assembly Thursday, 23-16 and 53-25-1 respectively.

The Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee released a bill Monday, 9-2-2, to permit the Department of Banking and Insurance to consider an application by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey to restructure to a not-for-profit mutual holding company.

(TRENTON) – Addressing the issue of wasted water in New Jersey, Assembly Democrats John McKeon (D-Essex, Morris), Carol Murphy (D-Burlington), Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen), and Britnee Timberlake (D-Essex, Passaic) sponsor legislation approved Thursday in the Assembly Special Committee on Infrastructure and Natural Resources to require private and public water providers to conduct and report water loss audits to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

Testimony regarding proposed legislation to permit the Department of Banking and Insurance to consider an application by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey to restructure to a not-for-profit mutual holding company continued before the Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee on Thursday.

The Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee met on Monday to discuss proposed legislation that would allow Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield to convert from a health service corporation to a mutual holding company.
